WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES
BY DEPUTY L.M.C. DOUBLET OF ST. SAVIOUR
QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 29th APRIL 2024
ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON TUESDAY 7th MAY 2024
Question
“In respect of the Island’s Dementia Strategy, will the Minister –
- confirm where the public can access the current Strategy;
- detail the current Strategy’s objectives and the funding available;
- provide a timetable for the development of any new Strategy; and
- advise what gaps, if any, have been identified in the current Strategy’s objectives or funding going forward?”
Answer
- The Dementia Strategy will be publicly launched and published in June.
- The strategic objectives relate to 5 overarching priorities:
- Raising awareness
- Diagnosing well
- Supporting people with dementia and their families
- Developing, valuing, and supporting the workforce
- Supporting Jersey to become a dementia friendly community.
An implementation plan is currently being developed (see below) which identifies the actions that can be taken within the current available resources, and where additional funding / resources will be required to deliver against the objectives.
- An initial implementation plan is currently being developed by a steering group of cross- departmental representatives, Dementia Jersey, and people with lived experience. This is on track for completion by the end of May and will set out the implementation plans for the next year relating to each of strategic objectives. This will be published this alongside the Strategy, so that the public are clear on the actions that will be taken in the initial period of implementation.
- The Strategy is new and therefore remains contemporaneous in its aim to provide a foundation for future action. As described above, the implementation plan will identify where there is a requirement for additional funding, and what can be delivered within current resources.
