WQ.193/2024

WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE CHIEF MINISTER BY DEPUTY M.B. ANDREWS OF ST HELIER NORTH QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 13th MAY 2024 ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON MONDAY 20th MAY 2024

Question

“In respect of the public sector 2025 pay rise of 1% over the rate of inflation, will the Chief Minister advise the estimated additional payroll costs that will be incurred due to these pay awards, and what consideration, if any, has been given to increasing Government efficiencies to mitigate these increases?”

Answer

The additional 1% for the pay award in 2025 is estimated to be £7.3 million. A review of efficiencies within Departments is already under way and is being overseen by the Chief Executive Officer. It will include vacancy management in non-front-line services.
