6.  Statement by Deputy J.A. Martin on behalf of the Health, Housing and Social Security Scrutiny Panel regarding the future of the Income Support Sub-Panel

6.1   Deputy J.A. Martin:

On behalf of the Health, Social Security and Housing Scrutiny Income Support Sub-Panel, I would like to take this opportunity to inform both the States and the public that the Sub-Panel will continue in operation through 2008 to monitor the introduction of income support. We are pleased to inform the House that Deputy Scott Warr en has agreed to join the Sub-Panel, but would  like  to  see  at  least  one  other  States  Member  on  the  Panel.   I  would  appeal  to  the Constables in particular for assistance as their experience in the administration of welfare would be very valuable in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the new system. As a Sub-Panel we intend to continue to work closely with the Minister for Social Security and his department to ensure that the implementation of income for support does not disadvantage the public. To this end we would ask both States Members and the public to contact in confidence the Sub-Panel through the Scrutiny Office if they have any comments or concerns about the new income support system.

The Deputy Bailiff :

Are there any questions? Is there any Member rising on that? Very well.
