18 October 2023 Dear Chair,

Digital Economy Strategy - Consultation

Thank you for your letter of the 16th October in which you provide a number of questions relating to the Digital Economy Strategy. I have set out below answers to each of these in turn:

  1. We understand the deadline for comments is the 9th November 2023; can you please confirm this and outline the method in which contributors can share their views?

Yes, 9 November is the closing date for the public consultation on the Digital Economy Strategy. The public is invited to respond to the consultation at Digital Economy Strategy (gov.je).

The public is invited to a drop-in event to engage officials on the consultation being held on 1 November from 11:00 until 13:00 at Castle Quay. Additionally, two further invitation-only stakeholder workshops will be held on 23 October and 6 November to discuss the consultation’s themes.

  1. With whom have you consulted in relevant industries regarding the set-up of the consultation and how will it be communicated?

Digital Jersey and Jersey Business have shared the consultation with their members and all stakeholders engaged in roundtables to discuss the Strategy in the Spring of this year have been notified and encouraged to circulate it widely.

  1. Who was responsible for the design of the consultation including question content and using what methodology?

The consultation was the product of an iterative process between myself and officials in the Digital Economy Team to decide on the themes and questions. It benefited from inputs from stakeholders invited to attend the six workshops I chaired earlier this year to discuss emerging ideas, and from ongoing dialogue with Digital Jersey. Close attention has also been given to the need to engage widely within the Department of the Economy, particularly with the Future Economy Team, and across Government in finalising the consultation questions.

I hope the above provides clarity to the areas you have raised. Yours sincerely,

Deputy Alex Curtis
