States Greffe: Scrutiny
Jersey Youth Parliament BY EMAIL: hello@jyp.je 11th July 2023
To Whom It May Concern,
Secondary Education Funding Review
As you may be aware the Children, Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel recently launched a review into Secondary Education Funding in Jersey and the Panel is keen to gain your views on this topic.
What will the review investigate?
The main aim of the Panel’s review is to establish the requirements of the secondary education system in Jersey and assess whether the funding for secondary education is sufficient to meet these requirements. The full Terms of Reference for the review are attached at the foot of this letter.
The Panel would be interested to hear comments from the Jersey Youth Parliament relating to any of its Terms of Reference but would particularly like to hear if you have any comments under the fourth item, in respect of contextual factors that impact the funding of secondary schools.
Further information and background regarding the Panel’s review can be found on the Panel’s review page on the States Assembly website.
How can you contribute?
We would be interested to any views that the Jersey Youth Parliament would have on this matter. Should you so wish to express your views in person please do let us know and we can arrange a meeting with your representatives to discuss the review topic further.
Written submissions can be sent to the contact details at the bottom of this page or submitted via the States Assembly website by clicking on the ‘Get involved’ link. The deadline for written submissions is Friday 4th August 2023. If this timescale is likely to cause you difficulties, or you have any other queries, I would ask that you contact our Committee and Panel Officer, Katherine de Carteret, by email at k.decarteret@gov.je.
The Panel have also created a survey to gather feedback on what Islanders think about the provision of secondary education in Jersey. Should you feel it is appropriate and if you were to be happy to do so here is a link to the survey for you to share with other interested parties.
What will happen with the submission?
Written submissions will generally be uploaded to the States Assembly website, however, we reserve the right not to release certain submissions into the public domain. Any evidence received under a confidential or private agreement, in accordance with Jersey Data Protection legislation will not be released into the public domain. Submissions made publicly available in this manner may also be cited in the panel’s report. If you wish your name not to be included when we publish your submission, please let us know at the time of making your submission. The publication of a submission does not suggest a panel’s endorsement or otherwise of the content. The views of a Scrutiny panel in respect of the evidence received are reflected in the panel’s final report. For further information, please read the States Greffe privacy policy.
We would very much value your participation in this review and look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Deputy Catherine Curtis
