BY EMAIL

21st July 2023 Dear Mr Ringsdore,

Jersey’s Construction Industry

The Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel has recently discussed the operation of Jersey’s construction industry following the liquidation of a number of companies within that sector earlier this year.

I am writing to ascertain if the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) has considered undertaking any review of the operational practices and health of the construction industry in the Island, for example through a market study?

The Panel notes that a number of States Owned Entities operate within the construction industry and would value clarification if any work undertaken by the JCRA would also consider their manner of operation within the wider construction industry and the competition implications of such operations?

We would be very grateful if you could please provide a response by Wednesday 2nd August 2023. Please be aware we will publish letters by default, but can keep responses confidential should you require.

If you have any questions regarding this or our work in general, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please note that unless otherwise stated, all letters will be uploaded to the Scrutiny website as a matter of course.

Yours sincerely,

Deputy Moz Scott

Chair

Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel
