Dear Chair,
Change to Ministerial title
I am writing to provide you with advance notice of a change to my Ministerial title from Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture to Minister for Sustainable Economic Development.
As you may recall, in seeking the role of Minister for EDTSC I emphasised the importance of creating a sustainable economy, one that is long-lasting precisely because it grows in step with the ability of the island to maintain it, without plundering our social and environmental capital.
This priority has been important in shaping the work of the Department, particularly in developing the Future Economy Programme. I have therefore made the request to update the name of my Ministry to simplify the title and emphasise the importance of sustainably growing our Island’s economy.
I should emphasise that this change in no way impacts the statutory responsibilities held by my role and it should not be taken to imply a lessening of focus towards tourism, sport or culture. Indeed, work on a visitor economy strategy, elite sport strategy and a programme of cultural diplomacy are all well underway for delivery this year.
The change in the title of my Ministry will be made by the Chief Minister via an Order in due course and I hope the above clarifies the rationale behind this update.
Yours sincerely,
Deputy Kirsten Morel
