BY EMAIL 28th June 2024
Dear Minister
Follow-up matters from the Public Hearing on 19th June 2024
Thank you for attending the public hearing last week, together with the Assistant Minister and your Officers, your time is much appreciated. During the hearing you / the Assistant Minister committed to follow up with:
• Further details about any research being undertaken as part of the Future Economy Programme with regards to benefits of and support for nursery childcare and education;
• A breakdown of financial payments received by nurseries from the Nursery Education Fund;
• A list of apprenticeships available on Island;
• A copy of the list of the postgraduate courses supported;
• Details of changes that have been made, or are due to be made to mitigate fire safety risks within school buildings; and
• List of property maintenance or management issues for properties occupied by CYPES that have been unresolved for one year (or longer).
It was also suggested that the Panel visit both a States & private nurseries to compare facilities and funding and we would be grateful if you could provide contact details or make introductions for us to make arrangements for these visits at suitable nurseries.
As we came to the end of the time allocated for the hearing you agreed to respond to the Panel's additional queries in writing, and I set these out below, for your attention:
1. Minister, please could you share your thoughts about the "Right to Play" campaign by the Jersey Youth Parliament?
- How is Government taking on board the findings and feedback from this campaign?
- The Youth Parliament's 2023 report referred to their thoughts for Fort Regent. Please could you confirm if the Youth Parliament's ideas have been put forward for consideration by Government?
- Can you tell us in detail about any Ministerial conversations you've been involved in about play spaces in Jersey?
i. Please can you clarify how play spaces' fits into your remit and crosses over with other Ministers?
- Can you tell us more about what the play policy says about play area design? / How are play areas designed?
[For example, is there guidance on inclusion of greenspace or planting?]
- Who does the design work?
- What is a typical budget for a play area / how is this agreed?
Thank you in advance for your assistance. The Panel looks forward to your formal response and would request that this is received by Friday 5th July 2024.
Yours sincerely,
Deputy Catherine Curtis
