7th March 2024 Dear Chief Minister,
Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel
Ministerial and Legislative Priorities – Information Request
The Panel met on 5th March 2024 to discuss its work programme and, to inform this, agreed to request detail regarding your immediate ministerial and legislative priorities for 2024 as well as for the remainder of this term of office. Where possible, the Panel also requests to receive the anticipated lodging timelines in relation to your legislative programme.
The Panel is aware of a number of workstreams that were intended to be carried over from 2023 for lodging in Q1 2024 and would welcome to receive an update on these, including for the following:
• Draft Statistics and Census (Amendment)(jersey) Law 202-
• Amendments to the States of Jersey Law 2025
• Proposed Jersey Public Services Ombudsperson Law 202-
In addition, the Panel wishes to follow up regarding the Ministerial Response to the Government Plan Review 2024-27 - S.R.4/2024 - which was due by 17th January 2024. It is the Panel’s understanding that the Ministerial Response (jointly with the Minister for Treasury and Resources) would be received following the appointment of the new Council of Ministers. Therefore, the Panel seeks clarification on the timeline for receiving this.
The Panel has also noted that the requested minutes for the meetings of the States Employment Board to inform the People and Culture Follow up Review remain outstanding, although it has been followed up on multiple occasions. The Panel requests an update on this outstanding request and to receive these minutes as soon as possible.
Lastly, the Panel has agreed to request a private briefing to update and further its understanding on the role of the Cabinet Office. Our Officer will liaise with yours to arrange this.
The Panel would appreciate to receive a formal written response detailing this information by no later than Friday 22nd March 2024. Please be aware that it is the Panel’s intention to publish the response it receives on the States Assembly Website.
Yours Sincerely,
Deputy Helen Miles
Chair
