Dear Minister,

Waste Sites

The Panel would like to thank you and your officers for the briefing you provided on 8th March 2024 during which you outlined your priorities for this term of office.

During the briefing, the Panel requested information about historic waste sites around the Island. One of the questions raised by the Panel was whether a map was held by Government of all the locations known to have been – or still being used as – waste sites. The information provided was that while this information did exist it was not in the public domain and that there were restrictions on what could be publicised. The Panel would be grateful if more information could be provided, in confidence, if necessary, on the rationale and any legal reasons for these restrictions.

The Panel would be grateful for your written response within five working days of receipt of this letter.

We look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely,

Deputy Hilary Jeune

Chair, Environment, Housing and Infrastructure Panel
