Chair – Children, Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel

Sent by email only 22 October 2024

Dear Chair,

Follow-up matters from the Budget Review Hearing on 11th October 2024

Thank you for your letter of 16th October with some follow up questions from the recent Public Hearing. Please see the answers below and do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.

Draft department business plans

I anticipate I will receive a first draft of the departmental 2025 business plan in mid-November at the earliest, and will share a confidential copy with the Panel at that time.

Details about funding for skills provisions during the course of the year. Please could you confirm how regularly this information could be shared with the Panel?

Most of this revenue growth funding is spent / allocated on a termly basis therefore it is best if I provide the updates to the Panel on the same termly basis.

Details on the delay to the Gas Place school project

The Government's capital programme has been agreed to ensure projects are prioritised and are also deliverable within realistic timescales. Feasibility work for the development of a new school is currently being undertaken by officers in Jersey Property Holdings and CYPES. It is expected construction will commence in 2028.

A key milestone for this project is the acquisition of the Gas Place site. I am currently working with the Minister for Infrastructure to progress this and will update the Panel on progress accordingly.

Yours sincerely,

Deputy Rob Ward

Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning
