Deputy Doublet Chair, HSS Panel BY EMAIL

5 June 2024

Dear Chair,

Re: Residual Information from the last Public Hearing

Following the Panel's previous Quarterly Hearing on 14th March, I would like to provide further detail on some of the topics discussed.

  1. Provide data (quantifiable) regarding Autism Wait Times.

As of the end of April 2024 (presented in HCS' May 2024 Quality & Performance Report) the current wait for an autism assessment is 238 days. As shown below, changes made to the diagnostic pathway within the service have continued to successfully reduce waiting times in this service.

  1. Send the Panel statistics in terms of rheumatology. What percentage of the patients who have been re-diagnosed were private patients?

256 people who were known to have been private patients were invited for a review of their diagnosis and care. Of these 256 patients, 158 chose to attend a review appointment, and subsequently the diagnosis for 61 patients was changed; almost 39% of all private patients.

  1. Information and updates following the Ministers meeting with the Primary Care Board regarding prescribing ADHD medication through GP's.

My discussions with the Social Security Minister are ongoing in this area. We will be able to provide a comprehensive update to the Panel about longer-term solutions to the current issues around prescribing once arrangements have been confirmed for this briefing.

I trust the above is of use to the Panel. Yours sincerely,

Deputy Tom Binet
