Dear Chair,

Bergerac Production Funding-

Thank you for your letter of 11th October, in which you ask for information regarding the funding package for the recent Bergerac production.

I am pleased to support the production of Bergerac in Jersey given the significant opportunity for promoting our Island and its hospitality sector.

Set-jetting' presents a significant marketing opportunity to raise Jersey's profile and grow our visitor economy, to the benefit of islanders and our hospitality industry. Global travel data shows that TV and film are one of the biggest drivers of international tourism, second only to recommendations from family and friends.

Government officers have worked closely with Visit Jersey on this process to ensure that support provided to the project represents good value for public money. Following consideration by the Council of Ministers, I approved the proposed funding package and provided a letter of intent to the Producers in May 2024. I subsequently asked Visit Jersey to engage as the contracting party.

The total funding commitment will be £1.2m and this will be paid over two years. Funding for the project is broken down as follows:

We will reimburse on-island spending against independently audited accounts during 2024 of up to £650,000, this will be paid in early 2025.

An additional £50,000 will be provided by Government in 2025 with a further £300,000 to follow in 2026.

Visit Jersey will provide £100,000 in both 2025 and 2026.

In addition to independently audited spend on-island (including in hotels, restaurants and transport) the production company took on four local apprentices for the whole production, including both Jersey and UK. Additionally, Government and Visit Jersey have agreed a recoupment of international sales and a percentage of net profits on international sales in perpetuity, details of these are provided in the confidential annex attached.

I hope the above information provides clarity to the areas you have raised. Yours sincerely,

Deputy Kirsten Morel
