Digital Skills The Sub-panel Chairman updated the Panel about recent Review work, notably with regard to a recent meeting he attended with the Director of Education and the Assistant Minister for Education, Sport and Culture to discuss issues regarding the Sub-panel's engagement with schools. The Chairman had also attended the Inspire Day Seminar, an e-learning event provided by the Education, Sport and Culture Department to assist relevant teaching staff in the development of their school IT Business Plans. The Sub-panel would meet later that day to discuss the aforementioned matters, to consider undertaking site visits to a number of schools and to identify witnesses to be invited to attend concluding Public Hearings. | SP |

Draft Proceeds for Crime and Terrorism (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Jersey) Law 201 The Panel welcomed representatives from Finance Industry Development, Jersey Financial Services Commission and the Law Office's Department. Collectively the representatives briefed the Panel in relation to the draft legislation. Adoption of the Law was intended to simplify current related processes and to enable Jersey to meet recommendations advised by regulatory bodies charged with assessing Jersey's Finance Industry. |

Retail Policy Review The Panel noted that a number of submissions to its Review had been received since the extension of the original deadline, and agreed a schedule of witnesses to be invited to attend Public Hearings in the coming weeks. It was noted that an invitation had been received to undertake a site visit to Jersey Post, and the Panel agreed that arrangements should be progressed. The Panel was informed by the Chairman about a recent workshop organised by the Economic Development Department for the retail sector which he had attended. Information relating to the content and outcome of the seminar was received by the Panel, along with further background information and the aforementioned submissions. | TO |
29/01/14 Item 7 515/24 | 7. Financial Services Ombudsman The Panel noted that the draft report from its Adviser on the Primary Legislation was due by Monday 17th February. It also noted that it awaited receipt of a number of documents requested from the Economic Development Department as part of its background research for its work on both the Primary and Subordinate legislation. The Panel re-confirmed that it would aim to complete its work on the Primary Law ahead of States debate on 18th March, despite the short timeframe being requested of it by the Department. On that basis the Panel agreed to seek an appropriate date for a Public Hearing with the Minister for Economic Development. | TO/ET |
