1.  Trackers Apprenticeship Programme.

The Panel held a public hearing with Mr M. Burton, Chairman of the Jersey  Construction  Council,  Education,  Training  and  Professional Development sub-committee. The Panel heard that from the point of view of the Jersey Construction Council, the Trackers Programme was successful  in  delivering  apprentices  of  suitable  quality  into  the construction industry. There was room for more educative work in the schools to advise the youngsters of the island of the diverse career opportunities within the construction industry and to show that there was more to the construction industry than many people understood.

It was noted that the professional view of the Jersey Construction Council was that Highlands was no longer adequate as a modern training facility dealing with the trades of the construction industry and that investment was urgently needed to bring it up to the required standard.  The  Jersey  Construction  Council  intended  to  publish  a report which would deal with such matters at the end of June.

The Panel thanked Mr Burton and he withdrew from the hearing.

It was noted that the Minister had agreed to attend a hearing on 9th June to discuss Trackers.
