1. Records of Meetings

The minutes of the meetings held on the 16th and 20th June 2014 were approved and signed accordingly.

2. Draft Explosives Law

The Panel noted its amendment to P.96/2014 that had been lodged au Greffe on 17th June 2014. It was of the opinion that the Minister was backing the amendment, having realised that the licences for explosive magazines may be renewed every three years rather than the annual process currently being undertaken. The Panel agreed a strategy for the debate on the amendment in the debate.

3. Trackers Apprenticeship Programme

The Panel approved the first draft of the report for the Trackers review and discussed recommendations. The report was to be completed and circulated for final approval.

4. Quarterly Public Hearing with the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture.

The Panel welcomed the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, the Director for Education, Sport and Culture and the Education, Sport and Culture Director designate to a quarterly public hearing at which the following topics were discussed:

  • The Youth Service.
  • Cyber Bullying.
  • Fit for Sport'.
  • Jersey Sport Foundation.
  • Island Games.
  • Sportsmen travelling off Island.
  • Review of secondary education.
  • Les Quennevais School.
  • Swimming Pools in Jersey.
  • National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

5.  Careers Jersey.

The Panel noted that Careers Jersey' of the Education, Sport and Culture Department had been awarded the prestigious Matrix Standard. The Panel wished to pass on its congratulations to the Department for reaching that standard.

6.  Future Meetings

The Panel noted that its next scheduled meeting was to take place on Monday 14th July 2014 at 09.30am in Blampied Room, States Building. The meeting was scheduled to include a quarterly public hearing with the Minister for Home Affairs. The Panel agreed that the work of the Minister  and  the  Panel  was  almost  complete  due  to  the  pending elections. The hearing was therefore to be cancelled.
