16.04.15 Item 2 517/30 | 1. Respite Care for Adults The Panel received a PowerPoint presentation which outlined respite users wants and needs. It also included the carer's perspective on what was currently provided and their hopes for the future. The Head of Service, Adult Community Support Services concluded the presentation by explaining how respite for adults had developed over the last 10 years. The Panel noted that the same presentation had been presented to Chief Officers and the previous Health and Social Services Minister in 2013. The transition process was discussed and it was noted that some parents felt that there was a lack of forward planning from the Health Department. It was noted that Mont à L'Abbé School currently had 10 students with complex physical needs, but there were two residential respite beds available in Adult Services which catered for wheelchair users. The parents and carers explained that they were in favour of a bespoke respite home for adults. As part of the Commissioning Team's work there had been an original plan for this to be situated at Le Squez as part of its redevelopment. However, the plans were cancelled at the last stage before building works commenced. There had also been an option for Maison des Landes to cater for adult respite. The service, which closed during winter months, was willing to open all year round if required. However, when some officers from the Commissioning Team left their posts, this option was no longer progressed. |
