2.  Licensing Law

The Panel discussed evidence provided for the review by the department. The  Vice-Chairman  had  reported  a  recent  comment  made  by  the Assistant Minister with responsibility for the Licensing Law ( Connétable

S. Pallett) indicating some surprise that the Panel was already embarking on  a  review  as  the  draft  law  was  still  incomplete.  Members  were concerned that there appeared to be uncertainties about what stage the proposals had reached, what detail had been shared with the industry and what changes might yet be made.

As a similar degree of uncertainty appeared to surround some of the details regarding the proposed Rural Economy Strategy, it was agreed that the Panel should write to the Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture inviting him to a meeting early in the New Year to discuss the department's progress and probable timings on these issues, to enable the Panel to make an informed decision on the best way forward for its reviews.
