19/10/17 Item 4 517/36 | 1. Long-Term Care Scheme The Panel received a PowerPoint presentation from Les Amis regarding issues the organisation faced in relation to the Long-Term Care Scheme. Les Amis explained that the current assessment process included a deflator for group living which added additional pressure on placements if a client had to leave due to health reasons. The Managing Director explained that this had happened recently within the organisation. It was noted that Les Amis provided care within bespoke community based houses rather than larger 50+ bedded units. Les Amis explained that if a client left a 50 bedded unit, for example, the loss of income would be absorbed within the business. Within the Les Amis care model, one empty bed would result in a 2% reduction in income in a four bedded unit which would translate into a 25% reduction in income overall. Les Amis explained that there was a risk in future to move back towards institutional care. The Panel thanked Les Amis for the presentation. The Panel agreed that the issues raised by Les Amis should be discussed with Officers from the Social Security and Health and Social Services Departments. In that regard, the Panel requested the Officer to arrange a meeting with Mrs S. Duhamel (Director, Employment and Social Security) and Mr C. Dunne (Director, Adult Services, Health and Social Services). | KB |
