516/51 | 1. Draft Criminal Procedure (Jersey) Law 201- The Sub-Panel noted that it had received several submissions in relation to the Draft Criminal Procedure (Jersey) Law 201- (the draft law) and agreed that it would proceed to gather further evidence relating to the review. The Sub-Panel noted submissions from Sir Michael Birt and Mr. Julian Clyde-Smith (responding in their capacity as Commissioners of the Royal Court), the Bailiff of Jersey (in his capacity as Chief Justice) and the Law Society of Jersey. It was agreed that the Sub-Panel would extend an invitation to those parties to discuss their submissions further. The Sub-Panel discussed appointing an advisor to assist it with the technical issues raised in the draft law, and to provide it with details of how similar changes in the United Kingdom had been received. It was agreed that the Sub-Panel would approach the Law Society of Jersey in order to recommend any individuals who may be able to act in the role of expert witness to the Panel. The Sub-Panel noted an invitation from the Community and Constitutional Affairs Department to meet with a victim of abuse who was willing to share their thoughts on how the changes to law would have benefitted their particular case. The Sub-Panel agreed that it would accept this invitation and tasked the Officer to arrange it accordingly. | AH AH AH |
