S.R.6/2017

17th July 2017

2017 Electoral Reform

Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel.

The  Privileges  and  Procedures  Committee  (PPC)  notes  the  findings  and recommendations  put  forward  by  the  Corporate  Scrutiny  Sub-Panel  (Electoral Reform) in S.R.6/2017.

Whilst the Committee acknowledges the findings, it wishes to highlight that P.18/2017 was simply seeking to implement a decision which had already been taken by the States  Assembly.  PPC's  involvement  was  only  to  bring  forward  the  necessary legislative changes required to give effect to the decision; the fact that the Assembly then decided not to progress with reform was not within the Committee's purview. Should reform of the Assembly be revisited in the Chamber again, PPC will take into account the findings of the Sub-Panel in its future considerations of this issue.
