13th November 2009 Briefing Paper: Update on Rural Economy Strategy
The Rural Economy Strategy (RES) was implemented on 1st January 2006 and is currently due to end on the 1st December 2010. The Strategy document gave a clear undertaking that the RES
2005 would be reviewed in 2009 with the objective of bringing forward a new 5 year Rural Economy Strategy for 2011 to 2015.[1]
Following a meeting with Dan Houseago, Assistant Director, Environmental Management and Rural Economy an update of progression of the new Rural Economy Strategy is as follows:
- In terms of timetabling the department is on track to achieving its target for the development of a new 5 year Rural Economy Policy (2011 – 2015). A new Rural Economy Strategy will be debated in 2010, with a view to implemention on the 1st of January 2011.
- The current position is that the department has a paper "Draft Issues and Options" – which is essentially the Green Paper and is due to be released at the end of November.
