Statement update from Education Minister

The Education Minister announced earlier this week that most schools and colleges, including Highlands, would be closing to students from Monday, 23 March. This decision was not taken lightly, and was informed by the expert advice of the Medical Officer of Health.

Senator Tracey Vallois is aware that the closure has given rise to a range of implications. These include the need to help essential workers with the childcare and education of their children and the need to support vulnerable students and their families.

A key element of this work is to establish contingency arrangements, and a meeting has been arranged this afternoon with representatives from the private, charity and voluntary childcare and early years sector.

Further information about the Government's plans will be shared as the details become available.
