Dear Sirs
The Government SHOULD already have a great deal of information about residents of the island from the Social Security and Tax Departments and other sources. There should be little or no need for further information, particularly of a more personal nature.
From this information the Government SHOULD already know exactly how many people live in Jersey, whether permanently or on a short term nature. As many people doubt whether this is the case there is a need for a thorough reviewto establish, with certainty, the current population.
Thereafter the Government should be able to extract sufficient information from their existing systems to be able to plan ahead and ensure the island's infrastructure is geared to cope with further increases and to decide whether further increases need to be controlled.
You cannot run a business properly unless you know and understand the dynamics involved. It is appalling the Government did not address this situation many, many years ago and it is futile to seek credit for finally doing it now when all concerned have had the opportunity to do something in the recent or more distant past.
Yours faithfully John K Shield
