It seems totally wrong and unjust, that some public events should enjoy the complimentary provision of policing whilst others fall under the umbrella of "user pays". It begs the question of whether there is some sort of prejudice being applied to those events which are predominately attended by the younger spectrum of the population.
I would also like to raise the question why it is deemed necessary to employ additional police at what is essentially a very peaceful event, particularly considering the large number of people.
If a user pays policy were applied to the Battle of Flowers, it would almost certainly be the final nail in the coffin, as far as the long term survival of such an event is concerned. I feel that to "charge" festival-goers would seal the same fate for Jerseylive. Bit of a shame really, seeing as today's visiting festival-goer is tomorrow's visiting family of four.
