Subject: Esplanade Car Park Development
Dear Mr Le Fondre
Further to our chat recently, I hope it is not too late to share my views with you on the controversial development on the Esplanade.
The Financial District, Esplanade Quarter, Business Centre, these are all words associated with major cities; London, Paris and New York. This is a small island 5 miles by 9 miles and cannot be put in the same category as them. But some of the so called politicians have big ideas, way out of proportion, only to make a name for themselves. It would appear to be a case of 'Small Man Syndrome'.
It may create some jobs for a short period but that is all; it will not attract new business. If anything, business will decrease. The days of aggressive tax loopholes are numbered. A well known bank are presently writing to all their offshore account holders to weed out the offenders and closing those accounts.
The Esplanade car park is in the perfect area of town and has served the public well for many years. It has become a shelter for nature in the midst of the concrete. Now some of the trees and shrubs have been cut down in preparation for this development displacing the animals in the depths of winter which will surely cause their deaths. Nature is already suffering by the relentless progress of the human race.
I believed planning permission was given on the condition that tenants had signed up but as stated on Channel Report that is not the case. And
would say that they are exactly that 'Tenants' who could leave at any time. Just because it is given does mean it is written in stone. And I do not believe that one person should have the responsibility of the final decision on behalf of the whole population.
On the topic of the tunnel from West Park and the futuristic underground car park I would only mention the rising sea levels and La Palma.
This whole development should never have been put on the drawing board and my only hope is that good sense will prevail.
My views can be made public but I would ask that my full name not be disclosed only my initials as I do not want any repercussions.
Thank you for your time. Yours
Joan Cousins
