Words and Numbers Matter is an independently funded charity supporting literacy and numeracy in the community.
Dyslexia Jersey is also an independently funded charity supporting literacy in the community.
These charities are trying to work in partnership with ESC. All parties are like minded and hold meeting but nothing comes of them. No Service Level Agreement etc. Looking for consistent support from ESC. Parents have to pay for services at the moment. Unable to have meaningful communication.
Concerns of delays in diagnosis. Children are being left behind because their problems are not being picked up.
Children are failing to reach their potential but are getting by'.
Dyslexia often not diagnosed until 1st year at university.
Statistics show the global trends for dyslexia. There is a lack of understanding in Jersey. It is not the role of teachers to provide 1X1.
System of testing: Word Matters. 1 hr test provides defined areas of need.
Support through RoN in schools of 1 X 1 is often only for 10 or 15 minutes per day. (Green spelling paper produced)
