Plat Douet School PTA Submission – 11th March 2016

Plat Douet school have discussed the starting age of school children and have came up with the following

- There is no obvious divide in grades between younger and older children in the same year group when leaving primary.

- Some children are ready for nursery/school no matter what month they are born.

- Working families need school nurseries and reception, so that they are able to carry on working.

- With social security struggling to get parents back into the work place earlier when their child is 3years, how would they cope with parents being off work until there child is older maybe 6years.

- Families that are struggling both financially and with raising a family would find having their child home until they were older even more challenging.

- Children in nursery and reception enjoy and benefit learning through their play, even though they do not necessarily know that they are learning.

- Early years learning help the child with social and emotional development, the child can learn to make choices and promotes language.

- What about having a double intake?

The majority do not wont the school starting age to change and we would like to ask this question

' Is the underlying problem that you no longer won't to subside the 23 free hours, that the children currently have available to them when they are at the age for school/private nursery?'
