Comment for States' Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel re Draft Marriage Law
I am disappointed to see that the draft marriage law makes no provision to protect private citizens, government employees or business people who are conscientious objectors to same-sex marriage.
If service providers who object to providing a service for a same-sex wedding can face a heavy fine and government employees such teachers and social workers lose their jobs for refusing to promote same sex-marriage because of reasons of faith and good-conscience, then a law promoted in the cause of tolerance and equality for one group will result in intolerance for others.
Please do consider the position of conscientious objectors to same-sex marriage. Susan E Taylor
