I am writing to oppose the proposition to remove Parish Deputies; have 6 super constituencies and abolish the role of Senator. It seems crazy to remove the Parish system, and rather than each Parish electing a known individual, instead to have 4 Deputies over 4 Parishes. I am sure it would mean that even fewer of the Electorate bother to vote.

I believe the role of Senator, with an Island -wide mandate is important and personally, would prefer to have the number increased.

It is not the way we vote for our States members, it is the way the States is being run that is the problem. The current Ministerial Government is NOT working. There is too much power in the hands of too few politicians. It seems entirely wrong that whatever the Chief minister says, all the other Ministers have to go along with. Currently, Jersey seems to be run more as a Dictatorship. Decisions are made within the select ' Council of Ministers.' The old 'Committee ' system allowed discussion amongst the members of the States, and a more 'balanced' approach.

I am also extremely concerned about the power of the Civil Servants. Many have been brought over from the UK, stay here on large salaries for a period of a few years and then leave. They are accountable to no-one.

Yours sincerely Andy Howell
