We went to the Electoral Reform meeting at St. Ouen s Parish Hall .

We both agree entirely with Ex Senator Jean Le Maistre.

We MUST have a Referendum on Electoral Reform with a Yes or No answer.

The 2013 Referendum was a complete botch. All three choices were horrible and people were voting for the least damaging of the three.

We strongly believe in the Parochial and Honorary system and by removing the Deputy /s from their specific Parish will damage the system.

St. Peter or St Ouen could easily end up without a deputy connected to the Parish. Is a Deputy elected with connections in St. Brelade going to come to our Parish meetings or support our problems if we have any? They would be so unconnected that they would not know what is going on.

We believe in the Senators as this is an Island mandate. This is where we would expect a Chief Minister to come from and NOT a Deputy . The time in office of the Chief Minister should be limited to two terms but be able to return at a later time.

No thought has been put in for the practicalities of the nomination meetings and the election. This should be thought out first. Politicians need to connect with the voters or else the polling numbers will continue to drop. This is why a referendum is essential.

The current system of the Deputies and Senators is not broken so why change it. Just add a few extra deputies to even up the voting numbers if necessary. Listening to the speakers, they seem to want to change the system for change sake.

Sincerely

John and Rosemary Le Marinel.
