Dear Sir/Madam,
Having thoroughly enjoyed several of the open air events put on offer to the island, I understand these put more complex strains on recycling and waste management, but I would ask scrutiny to question whether single use plastics could be reduced at theses events;
-many plastic cups are used
-food wrapping is often of the thermal or hygiene sealed individual plastic type
-gifts / festival material hand outs have wrapping and are made from heavy printed plastics.
Instead of battling for separate bins that will not succeed at theses events due to cross contamination and poor effort on the part of event goers. May I suggest that event organisers are requested, as part of their 'event plan', to insist on more environmentally appropriate containers/packaging from stalls and concessions from the outset.
I suspect they will cry that this will cause a price hike, but as more and more alternate solutions become the accepted norm, prices will drop and organisers could also be offered incentives if they conform.
My suggestion as requested, regards,
Guy Parslow
