Good Morning

Thank you for the opportunity to contribute to the scrutiny review regarding use of plastic. There were two things I wanted to put forward.

Firstly, at home, it is possible to recycle plastic using red bags. However to do that, I need to go to one of a limited number of corner shops to get the bags.

Fortnightly collections aren't ideal, weekly would be better, but the biggest issue is the dates given for collection by parish of St Helier state they "may" occur. They frequently don't. Keeping waste for 4 weeks is a challenge. Further, when there is due to be a collection and it doesn't happen, inevitably by the time people return from work, seagulls have done their work and the plastic is widespread. I recall certain days where the streets locally were quite thick with plastic ripped from their recycling bags that weren't collected.

Weekly collections, delivery of bags or stocking of bags in supermarkets and most of all reliable collection would immediately reduce the problem in St Helier. That is not to be critical of POSH, who are probably quite forward thinking but need more resource.

At work, I often notice that while we recycle paper, all of the waste bins are full, almost exclusively of drinks bottles, cans, food wrappers - all recyclable but currently not being recycled. Some sort of engagement strategy with staff or estates management companies and provision of an ability to recycle would make a real difference. Results from my workplace would be significant - if replicated then the results could be huge.

Hope my input is of value
