To who it may concern
Although a very useful product, single use plastic has become the scourge of one of the largest pollution habits in the last 50 years. Sir David Attenborough has certainly brought this to the forefront of our minds with his programme Blue Planet'. We have to start in the schools and indoctrinate children from a young age that it is wrong to be wasteful of our resources on our beautiful planet. This means wasteful in every way. I remember as a little girl we would treasure hunt after a high tide – I am now 54. So it has taken less than 50 years to become a pleasure to a crisis. We only have one chance at this and if we get it wrong

Ways to reduce single use plastic
- Ensure every parish does their part. I.e. separate paper, glass, tin and plastic
- Take this further, ensure we are able to recycle more of our plastics as currently only our bottles are recycled. If you look on nearly every plastic food covering, this will have a recycling method.
- More praise and encouragement for schools and businesses doing beach pickup days. Make it a States incentive, provide the tools and to do it for free.
- Give companies and businesses incentives to do the same.
- Lobby government to put pressure on our food manufacturers and producers of food wrappings to use eco products like compostable plant based packaging made from bio plastics PLA. These plastics are made from plants. Vegware is an example of this.
- Ensure all States buildings use NO plastic cups.
- Put pressure on local growers to stop wrapping our vegetables in plastic, i.e. cucumbers. Stop using plastic trays for tomatoes etc. They've only travelled down the road'.
- Ban all unrecyclable single use plastics from coming into the Island. We do it others will follow.
- Ban all imports of plastic bottled water into the islands. Our tap water is safe to drink – Jersey Water could offer incentives i.e. discounts on water filters for those who want them.
- Ban all coffee shops from using disposable (or as we know in disposable as they are coated in plastic) cups. Many supermarkets are now selling reusable recycled collapsible cups.
- Ban all cafés and restaurants from using single use sauce sachets. What's wrong with putting the sauce bottle on the table?!

- Name and shame those supermarkets who refuse to reduce plastic.
- Look at this https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/04/25/supermarkets-agree-ban- unnecessary-single-use-plastic-packaging/ - 2025 is too long. This needs addressing now.
- The States has to be bold and make it happen!
