Hi,
Here are some ideas to reduce our use of plastic:-
- Take a leaf from France's book and totally been single use plastic bags You don't even notice it once they are not available
- Discounts for bringing your own take away container to cafés.
- Start a Bring/Borrow/ Buy scheme for take away hot drink containers and van single use ones. Some of the cafes in UK do this.... Bring your own, pay a deposit to borrow one, of but one to reuse again and again.
- Water fountains all over the place so people don't buy bottled water.
- On the same theme, publicise the purity of Jersey Water. And/or clean it up if it falls below a high standard of purity. Also emphasise how much money people could save by drinking to/water fountain water.
States premises should lead the way regarding food and drink. With no single use cups at water dispensers.
In terms of dealing with what we do use...
- Education on the value of recycling.
- Clear up, it admit to the rumours that circulate regarding the incinerator:
That it is too large for the islands needs and therefore requires our plastic to keep it burning as it is to o costly to shut down for part of the week
- Incentives for the Parishes and individuals to recycle. At the moment it really doesn't matter if you chuck everything in the bin instead of sorting out your rubbish into recyclables and not.
