Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel Budget 2019 Review – Submissions

Patricia Lewis

Dear Simon n Team

I am what the Finance Minister described as one of the 20 or so expats' affected greatly by the removal of the Marginal tax relief in 2016.

Since that year I now have to be taxed on my sole income - my Teachers Pension after working for 17 years in Jersey. (my husband is not eligible for any income from Jersey ) Having lost any allowance (why no personal allowance even?) I lose almost a quarter of my living allowance. I pay jersey tax department almost £ 3,000 and get nothing for that sum not living on the island. Added to this Jersey has no reciprocal agreement with Portugal so I also pay tax here.

Why do I have to wait until 2020 for a mistake made and accepted by the Minister as an error in certain cases? I need help now and seek a reassessment for 2016 and 2017 and obviously for the future. Surely those few' cases are easy to review.... they were able to quantify so the tax department must be able to find us!!

Looking at the suggested table for change I will not be paying any tax...... Yours
