I understand the opinion of many people in Jersey with regards to migration is a "look after our own first" approach, however, I think this is a sad and narrow minded view without respect for how fortunate we are relative to others. It lacks respect for humanity as a whole.

Sadly, I think comments such as mine will be enormously outnumbered. The long term solution is through education of our children, so that they understand that charity does not "begin at home" but that all people are equal and deserve compassion and respect.

With particular thought to acceptance of refugee families when we apparently do not have enough foster/adoptive parents here. I for one would be more prepared to take a child who was in great need from another country, than from here in Jersey as their plight is likely (though not always) to be greater.
