Written Submission from member of public re Future Hospital Site 3rd October 2020
Details:
I work at Overdale and have done for many years.
During periods of poor weather clinics have been cancelled as patient transport/staff have been unable to safely get up the hill, from any road.
There is a school/nursery/nursing home on each access road. At certain points of the day the access is slow, congested and complicated by children walking to/from school, often not looking where they are going. At best the access is poor and the additional of several hundred extra cars per day (staff, deliveries and patients) would add to the congestion
Providing an additional transportation service would be essential but would have to be available 24/7, unlike now. Thought must be given to individuals who cannot physically access buses due to physical or cognitive issues
Due to the additional time taken to get to the site I suspect that more appointments will be cancelled or missed and a demand for more out of hours clinic appointments as people will not be able to access the site quickly in their lunch hour or throughout the day for appointments
The site itself houses dozens of community services/clinics ( most of which i suspect management are unaware of) which would all have to be relocated to a site that would be able to provide comparable facilities including clinic/therapy space, workshops, parking etc..
The site is also home to an extensive amount of wildlife, trees and shrubs which would be lost if a Overdale was built on
I appreciate the hospital has to go "somewhere" but I would suggest before any decision is made that individuals visit the site, without management spin, and see for themselves what it is like
