Scrutiny Matters Feedback - Affordable homes
I believe one of the biggest issues is the fact development companies are building too many small homes (1&2 beds) when the island clearly needs family sized homes (3&4 beds) which I believe is one of the reasons for the higher house prices. The island is running out of space and I feel development companies need to start looking at countries / cities that have higher populations and see how they are doing it. For example US cities have families sized apartments everywhere. China and other Asian and Middle East countries come up with innovative space saving furniture to turn smaller spaces into bigger spaces. There are plenty of buildings left empty that could be used!
Jersey needs to stop building an island for financial professionals and start looking at their families and make this island a better place to raise a family.
I also think there needs to be more help to allow people to buy. Many if not all individuals in rental accommodation are paying the same or more than a mortgage. The main problem is they cannot afford to save thousands in deposits and legal fees. To qualify for 100% mortgage you need to have a close family member to own a residential home which again people don't have this.
Jersey is becoming too greedy. It's needs to stop being about making more money and prioritise it's people
