Good evening,
Me and my other half own an apartment in Ocean Apartments and we have huge concerns regarding the new hospital being built up Overdale, the road being built up Westmount road and our life up here at Westmount. Our future plan had been to put our apartment on the market down the line so we can hopefully purchase a bigger property for us to grow as a family, this had been our plan before it had been decided to build the new hospital up at Overdale. Our concern is now the hospital will be being built up in front of our property, who is going to compensate us for the loss of money we are more than likely to incur when selling? No one is going to want to now buy a property that is placed in front of a enormous building site. Or are there plans for us to be bought out because I'm very concerned that our life plans are now ruined due to the construction of a hospital being built right in front of our apartment. We are young property owners and who are very aware of rising property prices so for us to be able to "move on" is now extremely complicated.
We are aware that they want our main road being the main road for access and ambulances etc. This is going to have huge effect on not only ourselves but everyone else living in this area. There are a lot of dogs around this area and a massive amount of wildlife, what will happen to the wildlife? Where are we to walk our dogs? How are the elderly and large amount of people going to attend Overdale on a hill?! Having ambulance screaming past us of all hours is just ridiculous. The trees and greenery have been ruined already this week but using a digger and the surveyors which I think is disgusting. The area is being turned into a mess already and is already disrupting our lives in this area.
We purchased our property here for the beautiful area, it's peaceful, lovely neighbors, somewhere to walk our dog (there are many dog owners around here) it was in our price range and easy for us to walk into town to work. Our property is not purpose built (previously an old hotel) and hence definitely not soundproof. This construction and once finished is going to effect our lives living in our apartment. Who will compensate us for the stress and loss of money?
We have already paid a lot of money for the structure of the road from Ocean Apartments and our wall to our car park to be re lifted due to it falling and crumbling roadside. What will happen to this? Will we be reimbursed due to it being ripped out again when we have just all paid to have this done? Because it certainly won't be able to take works to it that are planned.
The wildlife is just beautiful around this area and it is already being damaged by carelessness of workers this past week.
I actually work in the current hospital so I'm fully aware of us needing a new one for sure. But I think these plans are being agreed to without the consideration of us living in this area and without our thoughts. They have even blocked off the access to the woods through Overdale so we can't even enjoy a nice walk through the woods anymore.
We are going to be at a huge loss with this and it's just not acceptable. No one has contacted us from the beginning to ask our thoughts and opinions so we are trying our best for it to be understood at what stress this is causing us, and the people around us.
I understand the need for a new hospital but at Overdale is not appropriate. I can't imagine my 83 year old grandmother attending an appointment at the top of Overdale, can you?
There are many of us in agreement with this. I think it may be worth you speaking to us all about what is going to be done about this.
I look forward to a response to this email. Kind regards,
Gayle Rosier
