To all members
I will respond to the relevant questions below but before I do so I would earnstly appeal to you all to re- examine this project as a whole against the current costs of the 'pandemic' and fall out costs which will for sure be exhorbitant and seriously question the almost doubling costs (from the original costs of redevelopment of Gloucester Street around £400 m) to the curent £800m, and to remind our Government of it's responsibility as Guardians of the Public funds.
The proposed Westmount Road re-routing scheme is in itself a grandiose scheme and totally unnecessary, never mind the huge engineering costs involved. It must be back to the drawing board from the point of view of the use of Westmount Road and seemingly the most sensible suggestion of a one way system up the hill, with a two way system at the north end of the road, both routes adequately accommodating a 'blue light' situation which, lets face it, is not every 5 minutes.
Replies to Questions
- Will you be affected by the proposed route to Overdale?
Yes. I live on Westmount Road directly above the road in question so will be directly impacted every day during the proposed destruction of much of my current neighbourhood including excessive noise from blasting and heavy machinery in operation for the project which will in no doubt continue for several years. Following completion of the project we will find ourselves living on a busy main road as opposed to a pretty, quiet little hill.
- How do you think the access route will affect the homes , leisure facilities and surrounding areas and the overall impact on the landscape?
Westmount Road is currently the only remaining rather pretty entry to St Helier and an enjoyable green meander down through to People's Park. Also one of historical value. This utter destruction is unquantifyable and what ever happened to 'Save People's Park'? How many mature beautiful trees will be torn down? How long has the bowling club been there?
- Do you feel the plans offer easy access using bus, bicycles or walking and take into account appropriate sustainable methods of transport?
NO is the simple answer. Westmount Hill is and always will be challenging either on foot or by bicycle. Anyone necessitating a hospital visit ( excluding employees) is extreemly unlikely to be walking or cycling and certainly not up that hill in any condition. A regular mini bus service from town will be the only answer.
- Do you feel that the public were given adequate time to properly consider all the information provided by the states to engage properly in consultation
AGAIN NO. The whole situation has been deliberately contrived and debate stifled and the project steamrollered through.
- Do you feel that any views of the public were adequately addressed by the G of J.? NO. Again the public have been completely ignored,
6.Was your voice heard?
Yes - but only by a minority, and I thank them for their support.
