What can I say other than how on earth is the Island going to pay back this vast sum of money? The cost of building seems to increase on a daily basis and the builders haven't even started. The one thing I find intriguing is how the sum of £804m was arrived at bearing in mind that no plans have yet been submitted. Did the States just appoint a builder and say that money was no object?

We don't need a luxury, world class hospital. What we need is a hospital that is practical and easy for the staff to work in, at the end of the day they are more important than

bricks. When you have to go into hospital you want the best of care to get better and then go home. I know it is too late now, but was consideration given to having the wards, operating theatres and maternity on this site only, refurbishing the general for clinics and A & E. I don't think the granite block is likely to fall down any time soon. This would alleviate the traffic problems at Westmount as there wouldn't be a constant stream of people needing to go up and down the hill.
