This project appears to have become out of hand'. A considerable amount of public money has already been spent when, in fact, a calm and joined-up scoping of the project does not appear to be in evidence.
I do not work in health and so do not have a full grasp on what updated facilities are required but, from what I have read, such a large spend and large hospital facility is not supported by evidence. Will there be the staff to work at such a large hospital? Why is such a huge access road required? Why is so much car parking required?
Now is not the time for such a large amount of borrowing. The government appear to be pushing on no matter what. We need to see clear service level agreements, an evidenced need for such a large facility and such disruption and an agreed final cost figure, not an ever- increasing budget.
Lots of people have commented on where the new hospital should be, I don't know whether consideration has been given to different hospital depts in different locations but I think a pause is required to ask whether a new hospital is needed or an updated existing one and whether now is the time to push forward bearing in mind world shortages of building materials etc and inevitable cost rises.
