As one of the younger generation of islanders I am, to say the least, terrified of what impact this will have on the cost of living. Ultimately we are seeing unprecedented spending by this government, compounded by the still rising costs not only to the government but also the local economy/community of COVID-19. They simply should not be allowed to take out a disproportionate loan over such a lengthy term. Why is it that the UK NHS can build a bigger state of the art facility at a much lower cost? Does someone feel that Jersey is so special we cannot have a reasonably priced facility? We have already seen tax increase once by way of lowering the import Deminimus unless the government can guarantee by way of legally binding contracts there will be no tax rises or additions until this loan is repaid in full then this should not be allowed to go ahead. I am so upset that the government are effectively leaving me with no choice but to leave my home and the place I was born as it's simply not affordable for a single person to live here comfortably.
