As a St. Helier resident who (virtually) attended every Parish Hall meeting to discuss the proposed new hospital, I remain aghast at the fact that this project is still seriously being considered.
At the age of 27 I am one of many Jersey taxpayers who will be paying for this project for decades to come and the criticism which followed the latest set of plans comprehensively dismantled almost every step of development, from the widening of the roads to the 'super' highway to the actual building itself - all of which have been very poorly designed, with little- to-no consideration for the local residents.
To add insult to injury, finding out that properties are already being purchased on the land in what can only be considered as a massively ill-judged pre-emptive step toward breaking ground on the Overdale site.
I fully understand the need for a new hospital on this island and there will never be a solution which everyone can agree with. However, the swift and damning backlash incurred in the wake of the latest set of plans needs to be a wake-up call - this cannot proceed.
One idea I would likely be in favour of is one which makes use of the existing site. Alex Bolton
