Westmount Road access. Why has discussion not been to extend the road in front of the playground, bowling green and pergola walk, straight up to the hair pin bend, thereby flattening the hairpin bend, avoiding the existing roadway / cliff face. Much less impact and leave existing roadway for foot, bicycle traffic.
Also, very little or no comment about the suitability or non suitability of the other access roads! Or any costs in making these safe. First Tower Hill, even if made one way, again is not a safe toad, with very dangerous bends and gradient not suitable for a public road access or exit from the hospital.
No mention of widening the road and moving the cemetery walls coming in from st John's Road (again in safe road, hair pin bins, width and gradient issues) or Queens road. All traffic will not use the unsuitable west mount road with its gridlock at cheapside!
Other sites are much more useful and suitable.
Why not pier road car park (currently under-utilised) already exists and all the space either side of the car park with flats beading pulling down and snow hill site available. Access to town less steep for pedestrians and in town!
This latter site avoids cost of road rebuild, taking over green zone backdrop for parking, road widening and land already owned by the states, so less expensive land purchase. This has never been suggested or explored.
Additionally, with split working from home, do we really need the last 3 business buildings on the waterfront, could this site not again be explored! All access exists, access to bus station for clinician visits and visitors to hospital. Liberty apartments available for medical tourism!
