In response to asking for feedback on the New Hospital business proposal and funding I would like to submit the following:
The proposed budget of £804 million pounds is definitely not appropriate for Jersey.
One of the original proposals was for half this amount. How have they allowed the costs to escalate to this colossal amount? We do not need such a state-of-the-art building in Jersey. It is not justifiable to spend such an outrageous amount on one building project and lumber generations to come with paying for it.
It would be far better to put some of this money towards addressing the dire medical staffing situation at the hospital and have a less expensive building. What is the point of having a state-of-the-art hospital if there are not enough doctors and nurses to run it? Far more important than the building, is to address the staffing issues for doctors and nurses, including recruitment, retainment, housing, pay and work conditions.
It is not too late to stop the project. I think the whole project should be re assessed by the new government elected next year and put on hold until then.
