Good morning Scrutiny,

I agree we need a new Hospital, nevertheless:

I am horrified/disgusted at the way the decision to spend a ridiculous amount of money on our new hospital, the figure which started at circa £400M has spiralled out of control to more than £800M this is quite unbelievable for a supposedly well managed government.

There is strong evidence that there are many hospitals that have been constructed for much less throughout Europe. I shall attempt to bullet point some of my key concerns.

The proposed site at Overdale is in the wrong place and quite unsuitable for building a large new hospital.

The site selection process was seriously flawed and would appear to be driven by one single minded politician (Senator Lyndon Farnham ) who has been less than honest throughout the whole process.

If St Saviour's or Warwick Farm had been selected there would have been no need to demolish Overdale and relocate to Les Quennevais at vast unnecessary expense. The valuable activities carried out at Overdale could have continued uninterrupted until the new hospital was completed.

If St Saviour's had been chosen the new hospital could be built on a site big enough, with room for future expansion, which the Island already owns. Instead, the unknown cost of developing Overdale is growing daily with all the compulsory purchase of the Bowls Club and surrounding land. Only this week talk of another £35M was needed for land and building purchase from unwilling sellers. At St Saviour's this would not have been necessary.

Access to Overdale is very difficult which has been well demonstrated by any sensible person, the thought of blasting a new unbudgeted road up to Overdale is

beyond belief.

The access to both St Saviour's and Warwick would have be far easier.

Unfortunately, vast sums of money has been wasted on hospital teams, consultants, engineers etc etc etc. Most of this money is gone with absolutely nothing to show for it, and nobody accountable!!!

The burden we are putting on the next generation of tax-payers is almost criminal.

The Nightingale Hospital at £16M + is another illustration of very poor decision making.

These are just a few of my concerns, I am not sure how we can stop the juggernaut which is out of control?

Perhaps a referendum to decide on the correct site could be the way forward? Bob de la Haye
