Before even considering sanctioning this obscene amount of money, I think the price of the hospital needs to be looked into. There are hospitals with better facilities being built elsewhere for less than half of this ridiculous amount of money.
The current plans for the hospital are style over substance. For example "Roof terraces"???? Really????? Why????
As for the cost of the access road and the "destruction" to achieve it. Where is the Environment Minister? You are telling us to buy electric cars to save the environment but are happy to destroy many mature trees and wildlife habitat, along with private homes and the JBC to achieve a hospital with a massive amount of money spent on a MASSIVE car park on a hill on land bought by compulsory purchase orders at huge cost already.
The funding needed for the plans as they are is horrendous and will leave the taxpayers with an enormous amount of debt for years to come and should not even be considered.
The hospital project, as it is, is being run by self-serving idiots who are forcing this debacle through. Please put a stop to it now before it too late.
A mix of the present hospital along with some new long term stay wards and any other new department that is deemed necessary at Overdale would surely be a sensible, affordable solution. Most people are in and out of hospital in a couple of days and just need practical not stupidly expensive wards.
