Maternity is a wonderful place and the level of care from staff is exceptional and I could t of felt more safe in there hands.. however the departments fixtures and fixings are so outdated they look tired and shoddy.
The fact that the labour rooms don't have en-suite facilities is astonishing and as I felt I needed the loo every five minutes that walk down the corridor was awful!! I was worried I wouldn't get to the loo in time and hung o to the wall for dear life when I felt a contraction.. not to mention passing other labour rooms and listening to other women some of which where louder than others.. to which can put the fear of god in you.. The fact fathers have to disappear for what seems like an eternity as there's no facilities for them either..
no air conditioning!! This is surely something that would be of benefit to staff and patients alike. Considering in the run up to given birth a parent is bombarded with how everything needs to be sterile and clean the appearance of the ward isn't great. Which asks is the equipment available to staff meeting standards?
Finally, I know a new hospital is on the horizon but surely this ward which is a wonderful place and possibly one of the busiest wards deserves to be at its best regardless, after all that's our futures coming into the world
